Jiawen Hou was born in 1978, Quanzhou, China.
After receiving his degree from faculty of Fine Art at Xiamen University in 2000, Jiawen Hou moved to Amsterdam, Netherland in 2001 and studied video and installations in Sandberg Instituut. Through drawing, photography and food, his artwork visualizes the process of asking and answering questions about daily life, exploring an ever-changing relationship between individual and society.
