ドナ・オンにはかつての特殊飲食店の空間を利用した作品の制作を依頼した。現場入から約１週間でプランが提出され、制作に要した時間は３日間。店に置き去りにされていた椅子やぬいぐるみ、ほうき、本、鏡等が、メタルパイプの両端にぶらさげられ、微妙なバランスを保ちながら宙に浮いている。これらの「忘れ物」がこの場所の過去に対する想像を膨らませる一方で、象徴的な「もの」として存在し、過去と現在の不確定な関係を簡潔な方法でするどく表現していた。
We asked Donna Ong to create an artwork out of a space formerly used as a brothel. She proposed a plan about one week after she first visited the space, and the work itself took three days to complete. Items which had been left behind in the shop, such as a chair, a stuffed animal, a broom, a book, and a mirror, were suspended from both ends of a metal pipe, floating in mid-air in delicate balance. On one hand these "forgotten things" prompt speculation about the past of this place, while on the other hand they exist as symbolic "things," acutely and concisely expressing the uncertain relationship between past and present.
家具、ファウンド・オブジェクト、また彼女自身が作った作品を混ぜ合わせ、ストーリー性の高いインスタレーションを制作している。ロンドンで建築を学んだ後、ゴールドスミス・カレッジにて美術を修学。「シンガポール・ビエンナーレ2006」や「モスクワ・ビエンナーレ2007」など、数多くの国際展に出品。
Profile
Combining furniture, found objects, and pieces she has created herself, Ong produces installations of intense narrativity. After studying architecture in London, she trained in art at Goldsmiths College. She has displayed works at numerous international exhibitions, including the Singapore Biennale 2006, and the Moscow Biennale 2007.
